Open historical monument days

Every year in September we open our garden and bakery at the Wilbrinkshof to the public. This free event offers you the chance to see inside a working historical bakery, one of the nicest in the Gelderland province. You can taste fresh baked bread, buy bread to take home, and enjoy live music in our garden.

De Monumentenprijs 2025

Every year during the historical heritage days, the Monuments platform of the three monument associations of the municipality of the Oude IJsselstreek presents an award to a person or persons who have made an exceptional contribution to the preservation and restoration of a historically significant building within the municipality. The 2025 Historical Monument award has been granted to Gwen van Roekel and Erik van Tertholen, owners of the Wilbrinkshof near Gendringen. They received the award for the extensive restoration and renovation of the nationally listed heritage building Wilbrinkshof, including the addition of new functions and the incorporation of sustainable features.

Contemporary Fox Hunt

In November the Wals community hosts a contemporary ‘fox’ hunt. Local farmers allow access to their fields. Beautiful large horses, experienced riders in traditional red hunter jackets and, the stars of the show, the hunting dogs, chase through the fields and jump over the canals following the scent laid down by a horse and rider using a 'scent doused' cloth. The dogs are closely followed by the hunters on their horses. The This year (2021) the hunt will start at the Wilbrinkshof. This event is available to a limited number of visitors.
