It leans on a great halaros, a word known in Naxian dialect to mean deeply rooted , granite bedrock. Born from the rock the tower was also a watchtower & represents a piece of the villages history. According to BBC documentation the tower was founded in the 17th century in a place not easily accesible & hidden from the sea because of the fear of pirates. the
